I was really impressed by the enthusiasm and passion of the presenters at the New York Tech Meetup earlier this week. It can be a tough crowd full of entrepreneurs, skeptical journalists and potential investors, but everyone held their own. Now that I think about it, there weren't too many glitches either, which must have helped! Sometimes you get the feeling that the group has seen it all before, but there are always a few companies/ideas that stand out. Crowd favorites the other night included Expo TV featuring video reviews by real consumers, and Mogulus where you can launch your very own live 24/7 TV station. Dave Weinberger was there to promote his new book Everything is Miscellaneous, The Power of the New Digital Disorder. You might remember a little book he co-authored a few years ago called the Cluetrain Manifesto. Somehow he managed to condense a 50 minute presentation into about 10. James Hong of Hot or Not fame also made a surprise appearance. He had most of the professional crowd giggling like teenagers from screenshots within the first five seconds of his presentation, which then focused on using Facebook as a platform. As Bridget referred to it the other day, "this little Web thing" is something else!
