I have to confess: I am a huge fan of our product. What a refreshing experience it is to develop software that you can use on your own. And even better – something that you can use with your loved ones, and see them brag about it. Last year when we came back from our vacation, my kids and I prepared our travel book through SharedBook. We were all truly excited about the end result, with all of our stories and photos. In fact, Tomer, my son, was so thrilled with the book, that he immediately went to take photos of our cat, and we put together a cat book. Now he runs around bragging to everyone about it.
Here at SharedBook, we truly believe in the “eat your own dog food” philosophy. We all prepare books, write applications and tools using our own open API, and we keep looking for new and improved ways to use the technology.
“Eating your own dog food” is a proven method for improving software quality, especially when done by developers. There’s nothing like getting frustrated by your own bug - to make you want to fix it fast! Check it out on Wikipedia to find out other benefits: Eating one's own dog food.
There seems to be an agreement throughout the industry about it: eating your own dog food can taste awful at first, but over time, your product dramatically improves. As a result of creating numerous books with SharedBook (I personally created a travel book, baby book, cat book and even a triathlon book), we have introduced significant performance improvements, usability improvements, and other important features.
And we are not alone in this: check out Mike Kavis' blog on this or Greg's Head: a great blog on software, user interface design and more.
Last week I came back from another family vacation. This time we all wrote our impressions on our family blog. I just can’t wait to see them integrated into SharedBook's platform!
